In addition to performing with SOR, Dr. Joel Schnackel is principal bass of both the Missoula Symphony Orchestra and the Conway Symphony Orchestra in Central Arkansas. He holds a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of Memphis, a M.M. degree in double bass performance from the University of Memphis, and a B.A. degree in music composition and technology from the University of Montana. Joel teaches double bass and music appreciation at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway and has a private studio in Hamilton, Montana. He is co-author of the music appreciation text The Musical Experience, 5th edition.
